Hi there! Becca from Lost Resort here. Thanks for the video– some points were spot-on– some of the experience was straight-up bananas, and I will always have some fun stories to share at parties and gatherings! Here are some notes from my experience on the retreat/show that may be helpful:

-Alcohol: We were actually not allowed to drink alcohol for about 2/3 of the retreat, except for one night when they provided wine just at dinner, and one night when we went out to dinner and we were allowed to order alcoholic drinks. The last 1/3 of the retreat, they let us order drinks from the retreat center bar on our own dime at dinner if we wanted. I'm actually allergic to alcohol, and Meco doesn't drink, so neither of us partook.

-Food: The raw fruits and veggies were what the retreat center provides for its guests to eat, no matter who stays there, since it's a wellness center. Production actually took pity on us, and started buying us supplementary food that we had in our casitas so we weren't starving all the time. If you watch the show, you'll see Meco making a grilled cheese at one point, because production bought us cheese and bread for us to make sandwiches. Production also bought us chicken fingers, fries, and quesadillas one night to keep morale up, and it was glorious.

-Primal scream: My time during the Rage Ritual was edited down to just two sentences before I started screaming, but I actually talked for about five minutes. I was screaming about a situation that had happened to me earlier that year, not at God.

-Meco and the ice pack: Since production was supplying us extra food on a regular basis, it makes a ton of sense that Meco opened our casita freezer and thought the ice packs for my medicine cooler were ice pops that production provided. No one actually filmed her eating it, the very little footage they have of her eating and spitting it out was from a mounted camera in our casita. Each casita had 2-3 mounted cameras that filmed 24/7, and when this all went down during filming it was so quick that production didn't even see it happen. No one knew it even happened until Claudia and I went back to the casita after breakfast and saw the ripped ice pack in the sink and Meco told us what happened. Dinner was over 10 hours after she ate/spit out the antifreeze, and at dinner Vairrun (who is a trained firefighter/EMT) explained that if she was going to get sick from the antifreeze, it would have happened immediately after ingesting. So everyone was joking around about it because it had been established that she was completely fine. Meco acknowledged later that her getting sick at dinner was mostly because she was embarrassed. We probably all have had those embarrassing moments where we feel sick thinking about them!

-Session with Acqua: I wrote a Twitter thread and an Instagram post about this session when Episode 5 originally aired.

-Final Thoughts: Though there were some bumps in the road and things I would have changed during the filming and the retreat, I actually got a lot out of it. I worked through my grief of not having biological children as an option anymore, and my husband and I are now "on the books" in the adoption process and waiting. 🙂 I was even invited to write an article about my experience on Lost Resort, if you're interested in reading more: https://faithlead.luthersem.edu/faith-on-reality-tv/

your videos are so well-researched, generous, and entertaining. i find myself coming back and rewatching them over and over again, you are incredible at what you do!!!

  3. Vexxa says:

yoga is something that can help traumatised people get in touch with our bodies and sensations. it can be very grounding (some people take up pilates or some other exercise !) and you can get that without the rest of this shit 😬

  4. Matt Vollmer says:

Chrissie is the quintessential proto-fascist. The guests are a great example of how few social tools people have to use against tyrants. That's because our capitalist society is not a place where people can learn these kinds of effective defense mechanisms.

  5. SesshyLover777 says:

Yo I'm Italian American. I'm white. We weren't viewed as white until like 80-ish years ago. STILL WHITE. STILL NOT COOL FOR ME TO PRETEND TO BE POLYNESIAN!

  6. Your Local Nerd says:

So rewatching this: "There’s only one way to have faith and its by testing it". That's a gross thing to say to someone who could die giving birth. Second, and I only using this example because Becca is a Christian and Pastor, but uh that directly goes against the point of Satan Temping Jesus in the Desert. I doubt Aqua knows that but if you're going to preach to someone about faith you should probably know about what their religion says about having faith.

  7. dude sweet says:

I am so glad your channel showed up in my recommended today! this is the wildest show ever- these folks remind me of sooo many people I've met while traveling, specifically those from Lake Atitlian, and its actually kind of cathartic to hear you critique this subculture so in depth.

  8. MrDN83 says:

Honestly by the way I saw the guy who said they had angels talking to him was probably the only one doing any real good and trying to keep sanity I think he may be a little right the way he was being their guardian angel lol.

  9. Nadas says:

You KNOW you've gone off the rails when a "new age healer" starts talking protocols with you. Also members of my family are into reiki, and you are not a bad person if you spit fake blood and demand they explain themselves. Nothing they do is worthwhile or meaningful

  10. Takke says:

Yeah even as someone who just had training to become a therapist and didn‘t finish that training, my limited knowledge still strongly makes me totally upset about the way these new age frauds are treating these people. This is why I always disliked the new age hippies that just made up their own bs religions out of vaguely esoteric bs stolen from the image of very real cultural traditions. Like this really is just a bunch of frauds manipulating vulberable people into becoming their little lab tests to see how they can mess around with their trauma. It‘s really just sickening to see. Cause just making people have mental breakdowns in a group with no professional present there let alone actual therapy to go along side it is really dangerous. Yet it also looks like a twisted parody of the US healthcare system being so unfairly overpriced and inaccessible that the people needing it most have to decide wich emotional abusive cult leader is gonna be the least harmful to treat them and their issues because they can‘t afford an actual professional. It‘s honestly sickening but also very obviously reflective of the horrid US system in general where bad religious frauds can be the most realistic alternative because the proper treatments are locked behind a absurdly inaccessible paywall. Like really. All these ppl I just feel sorry for cause this really isn‘t good therapy and being treated by a poor fraud of a „therapist“ may also just discourage them from seeking proper treatment if they can. It‘s honestly just so absurd but from a american show it‘s sadly not surprising since we all know that our favorite trashy nation desperate to be the center of attention 24/07 while trying to speedrun who can treat it‘s own citizen the most cruel without being thrown into a camp with north korea, russia or china, is just pumping out more and more media that‘s very reflective of how terrible the US has been and still is in sometimes more artistically meaningful ways like in certain movies, or in very trashy ways like this show. But in the end we all know that this is really just another display of total human dysfunction causing misery and suffering to those already at the lowest point because greed, lack of empathy (heh ironic since they all love calling themselves empaths) reckless behavior and a inflated sense of ego if not a straight up god complex is dominating those in the power in that retreat leading to a drastic reflection of the very real horrific life circumstances happening daily in the US.

  11. RasKassPutin says:

I remember having the most powerfully psychedelic experience of my life at 23 through meditation. During this time I dabbled in many New Age circles and found them all to be profoundly elitist and toxic long before QAnon and the pandemic turned them into blatant psychos, the only normal ones were Thelemite perhaps because the hierarchical structure demands a level of genuine dedication that drives away these kinds of bougie narcissists who think their uncontrolled id is the universe guiding their actions.

  12. DizzyandKoko says:

Hi, I'm Native American and would like to give my two cents.

I personally love when other try to learn about my culture. Many cultures and languages are dieing and are being forgotten and learning about them is the easiest way to preserve them. HOWEVER, pretending to become Native is… weird to say the least… it just reminds me of mid 1900s Hollywood fetishism and how Natives are seen as very magical people when we're not.

Stop pretending you can just become Native if you practice hard enough.

  13. Morahman7vnNo2 says:

You'd be amazed by the amount of Q people from left-leaning places.

Remember, he was the Qanon "Shaman". There's a direct link between spiritualism, a rejection of science and medicine, and radical conspiracy theories.

Of you see a chick play with pet rocks (they like to call them meditation stones), RUN

  14. Fangsabre says:

I gotta admit, I take a little schadenfreude from watching Aqua feel so hurt by being indirectly called a con artist.
Yeah, go ahead, cry about it. Becca deserves to feel a little smug for taking her down a peg

  15. Fangsabre says:

I'm half convinced that Solitary was fully scripted because there's no way those people don't have psychological trauma now

Much the same way I am convinced Chrissie is actually just Hannibal Lecter but feeds off people's anxiety, fear, and sadness rather than their actual flesh

  16. Genia kozlov says:

I was a new opinion back then and now that if any psychologist student wanted to have a totally unethical experiment all they needed was a camera and the title of reality TV

  17. M says:

love to drink of the putrid propaganda teat of the beast, and also contract with the beast

Kind of surprised that it took nearly twenty minutes to hit the far-right conspiracy theories.
